Dr. L. Wayne Plumly,
Jr. has an undergraduate degree in economics
from the College of William & Mary and Masters
and Ph.D. in economics from Georgia State
University. He has been teaching at Valdosta
State University for the past 31 years. In 2007,
he was inducted into the SIFE Hall of Fame.
Plumly has received 10 teaching awards including
the University System of Georgia Board of
Regents' 1998 Regents Teaching Excellence Award,
2003 Leavey Award for Excellence in Private
Enterprise Education, the 2004 Kenneth G.
Elzinga Distinguished Teacher Award presented by
the Southern Economic Association, and the first
ever 2004 VSU Excellence in Teaching Award. His
research and teaching interests are labor
economics, public finance, economics education,
and the economics of education. Plumly has
published 14 refereed articles and numerous
other publications. He is a faculty advisor for
the VSU Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) for
the past 17 years. VSU SIFE has won 16
consecutive regional championships and finished
in the top 4 in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2010 out
of over 600 national teams.
Dr.
Plumly is married to Cindy Kay and has three
children.
